Chief Bushyhead worked endlessly to preserve his heritage along with many other American Indian Tribal traditions. Chief Fred was a descendent of Peace Chief Black Kettle and War Chief Wolf Coming Out. He served as Master of Ceremonies at Powwows and several other venues throughout the United States. Chief Fred served four years in the United States Air Force, Vietnam era veteran and then as a medical technologist. He leaves to cherish his memory, mother Elsie Bushyhead, Shawnee, Okla.; loving wife Grey fox; sister Eloise Rice, Meeker, Okla.; daughter Ina Akins and son, Fred Bushyhead of Oklahoma; and four grandchildren. A special family who were truly enriched to be a part of his life: special mother, Susie Salazar and a special father, John Minerich of Arkansas; daughter, Shannon Lingafelt and husband, Chuck; grandchildren, Leslie and Cameron Lingafelt of Virginia Beach, Robert Rose of Washington, D.C., and Kyle Feldt of Pala, Calif. Chief Bushyhead was also preceded by a wealth of friends who respected and admired him for his spirituality and honesty of faith. The family wishes to thank allof his doctors, nurses and everyone in the medical field who assisted with his care. "We believe the Eagle flies so high he takes our prayers to the Great Spirit." The eagles are busy, Chief! A Ceremonial feast and gathering was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Tree of Life Chnstian Fellowship in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations were made to honor the Chief to: The American Indian Society, Washington, DC, Education Fund |
