On November the 7th 1998,
it was the honor and privilege of the Assateague Indians of Three States
to rebury ten Eastern Shore Native Ancestors
in Indiantown Park in Eastville, Virginia.

It is one of our beliefs that all things made by the Creator have part of the Creator in them, whether new or old, animate or inanimate. That no one or nothing is ever completely devoid of life. And the remains of these Ancestors were accorded the respect that this belief calls forth - by the Chief, the Clanmothers and native and non-native spectators.

The silence that lay over the woods in Eastville was interrupted only by quiet crying and by the blessing of the Stone People, exploding with prayers carried to Creator on the whispering winds. On this day, for a moment in time, the Past met the Present. Our Ancestors met their Children of today in a way that only the continuing Native Circle can provide.

Our belief that all things are connected proved once again to be true. The lives of these long ago Ancestors have reached forth and touched the lives of their descendants this day. And as of all things in life, today has been a process and not an event. It has taken many people to bring this day to life. And to you all - each and every one of you - We wish to offer a heartfelt, "Thank you"

And to the Ancestors - We say, "Waneshi" for leaving footprints that lead to our Circle.
